Infrastructure Improvements

Most of the major cities within the Central Mexico Region are served by 4 lane highways or toll roads in addition to the regular two lane roads.

SAN LUIS POTOSI

The state of San Luis Potosi recently approved a new toll road construction which will give it faster and safer access to the port of Tampico, providing quicker transit times between Central Mexico Inland Ports and the Maritime ports on the Gulf of Mexico.

The 4 lane highway from San Luis Potosi to Zacatecas is currently under construction with 70 % completion, the remaining 30 % shoud be completed in 2007.

GUANAJUATO

The state of Guanajuato has a “superhighway” (one lane highway each way with an extrawide lane to allow safe passing within each lane) under construction from Silao (this is where Guanajuato’s inland port is located) to Villa de Reyes in San Luis Potosi. Villa de Reyes is about a 15 minute drive from the city of San Luis Potosi where the 2 inland ports are located.

The completion of this highway will shorten the travel time from 2.5 hours to 1.5 hours, thus improving transportation to and from the port of Lazaro Cardenas.
